Come see all the competition cars on display, listen to live music and soak up all the fun and excitement that Pineville and SCCA Hillclimbing have to offer. There is something for everyone at FanFest- shopping, bounce houses, food and beverages!

Spectator Information

The 2024 Pine Mountain HillClimb is open to spectators! Park in downtown Pineville, pick up a wristband ($5 for adults, kids are free!) and catch a shuttle to the park. Once there, you will be able to watch cars leave the start line and head up the hill, or you can hike up to the upper paddock to see one of the fastest and most exciting sections of the course. Feel free to bring chairs, blankets, a small cooler- whatever you need to be comfortable for the day. Concessions and t-shirts will be available on the hill! Shuttles start at 8am, and will run until runs are complete, approximately 5pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.

Driver Registration for the 2024 Pine Mountain HillClimb will open on March 1st at noon eastern. The event is open to 90 drivers. If you need help with you classing or have questions about safety equipment, please visit: http://www.appalachianhillclimb.com/rules-and-classes.html

Run Groups and Two Driver Cars

Drivers will be put into one of 4 run groups, grouped by class. Group 1 will run first, followed by Group 2 - then Group 1 and 2 cars will be brought down the hill before Group 3 and then 4 go up and come down. Second drivers will run in the opposite group of their class. Example - if the second driver’s class is in group 1, they will run in Group 3.

Classing and Records

When registering, please select your AHS class - if you do not know your class, you may select "help me," and we will contact you to determine your class. In addition to the AHS classes, PMHC does keep supplemental records. If you would like to challenge a supplemental record, just select that classification, in addition to your official AHS class.

Paddock Rules and Etiquette

Paddock space is extremely limited for this event and thus ALL of us working together to maximize the space we have is essential. There are two paddocks for this event. The lower paddock is paved and includes grid and staging. The upper paddock is gravel. Here are a few rule and key etiquette notes to ensure we can fit everyone:

  • DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 10AM on Friday expecting to load in without receiving prior permission from the event lead.
  • PLEASE BRING THE SMALLEST RIG YOU CAN. We cannot guarantee space for large rigs in the lower paddock - if you need/want to spread out, plan to be on gravel.
  • If you are in the upper paddock, you are welcome to bring your competition vehicle, tools, etc to the lower paddock each morning, and keep the car there for the day.
  • If you are in the lower paddock, you MUST do all that you can to minimize your footprint. Examples Include - If you have a truck and enclosed trailer, please plan to find/make a friend (or two) who can park with you, alongside your rig - if you intend to set up a tent or awning, plan to park a car under it.
  • At the conclusion of each run group the road will be open for vehicles between the two paddocks. There is also a trail connecting the two, should any need to get from on to the other during a run session.
  • Essential enclosed trailers, competition vehicles and a (one) support vehicle per space may be kept in the lower paddock. It is expected that all open trailers and any non-required vehicles will be stored in the upper paddock.

FanFest

The Friday afternoon FanFest is an extremely important element of the Pine Mountain HillClimb weekend. As such, it is expected that ALL competition vehicles will be in attendance unless permission to be excused is granted. Competition vehicles will line up on the park road, heading downhill from paddock, starting at 3:45pm- and then parade by police escort to downtown Pineville at 4pm. Support vehicles are welcome to follow competition vehicles.

Lodging, Food and Camping

On Site Lodging

Rooms in the Lodge and Cabins are available at the Pine Mountain Resort, located at the top of the Mountain. There are a few king-bed rooms available as well as rooms with two double beds. These rooms are available at $290 for the weekend. Additionally, there are one bed-room cabins and two-bedroom cabins, priced for the weekend at $325 and $425. Reservations are being managed this year by email - if you are interested in on-site lodging, please email appalachianhillclimb@gmail.com, include “Lodging” in the subject line and tell us-

  • What room/cabin you would prefer
  • If there are other options you'd be open to
  • Number of people in your party

And we will get back to you with confirmation and a paypal invoice ASAP. Rooms are first available to drivers and workers.

Provided Event Team Lodging and Travel Cost Assistance

For those on the event team, AHS is happy to provide shared room lodging at the Econolodge in Middlesboro. Just let us know you would like a room while registering and let us know if you have a preferred roommate. For event team members who arrange their own lodging, camping or otherwise- travel assistance is available, $25 to support one day of the event, $100 for those who support 2 or more days.

Camping

Onsite camping is allowed for this year's event for drivers, crew and event team members. Vehicle camping (RV or trailer) is allowed in either paddock. Tent camping is allowed in the meadow, to the left of the upper paddock.

Dining in the Lodge

To better support local businesses, we will not be having a Saturday night social at the lodge- however, we would like to remind everyone that the restaurant at the lodge is open each day for breakfast and for dinner - we highly recommend getting a meal and taking in the view with our hosts.

As always, if you have questions, please ask at appalachianhillclimb@gmail.com
